Welcome to this Bali-inspired mansion in Montecito, listed for $40 million! This was the latest home that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi put up for sale. Before this, they sold a Tudor-style home to Ariana Grande, just a few months ago, in the same area.
They bought this home just last year, in 2019, for $27 million, in a 9.3-acre compound. This includes the main house, a separate guesthouse, a cabana, and a detached office. In total, the spaces measure 10,700 square feet, with four bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
The main suite carries a spacious walk-in closet and a stunning bathroom that has a built-in stone deep-soaking tub, dual vanities, and a glass-fronted steam shower. One of the bedrooms is currently being used as a home office, and there is also a library, with clerestory windows and built-in shelves lining two walls.
The 8,188-square-foot primary residence features an entryway with an entire wall of glass that opens onto a cavernous great room decked out in a Balinese-style aesthetic: thatched bamboo ceilings, distressed oak floors, and flamed black limestone. There is direct access from the great room to a covered veranda which boasts an impressive fire pit and outdoor dining area.
Outdoor offerings include a koi pond, a lush green lawn, a pickleball court, and hundreds of mature trees. The kitchen also opens onto the back veranda through a set of floor-to-ceiling glass doors and is equipped with black marble countertops and wood cabinetry.
