From Period Dramas to iconic blockbusters this year Academy Award ceremony is full of surprises. For all the interior design enthusiasts here are the 2019 Oscar’s Nominees for the Best Production Design Award!
Mary Poppins Returns – John Myhre and Gordon Sims
The fantasy setting created by John Myhre and Gordon Sims for the popular “Mary Poppins Returns” of Walt Disney Pictures is one of the top nominees! The interior design duo was able to recreate the stunning style of the original movie and extended it to the Depression Era that takes place 25 years after the making of the first movie!
The Favourite – Fiona Crombie
Created by Fiona Crombie, this 18th Century Royal Court surely represents the interior design style of that time… “The Favourite” movie is one of the top contenders because its sets embody the eclectic and detailed style that characterizes the top Production Design in top Period Dramas.
First Man – Nathan Crowley and Kathy Lucas
Nathan Crowley and Kathy Lucas took inspiration from the iconic life of worldwide famous astronaut Neil Armstrong. The stand out of the multiple rich elements of the “First Man” Production Design is on the varied airplanes and spaceships that led the way to the 1969 moon landing!
Roma – Eugenio Caballero and Barbara Enriquez
The Mexican design duo, Eugenio Caballero and Barbara Enriquez, surprise everybody with their successful recreation of the 1971 Mexico City environment. Directed by the great Alfonso Cuarón the stunning Netflix drama “Roma” is a well-deserved nomination!
Black Panther – Hannah Beachler
Hannah Beachler wowed both Marvel and Ryan Coogler with her deeply researched and inventive designs for the hidden African kingdom Wakanda. Her amazing work on the blockbuster “Black Panther” really enhances her creative and innovative side as a movie set designer!
