Karl Lagerfeld will always be a timeless reference of the high couture design. He was not only a creative director for big fashion houses, such as Chanel, but also an overall respected artist, who was also a photographer, and a caricaturist. The first speculation about his health condition immersed with his absence during Chanel’s haute couture show last month.

The first step of his professional path in the fashion industry started in 1955. Karl Otto Lagerfeld was the assistant of Pierre Balmain and became famous for his very unique approach to his fashion and art projects.

As the year passed by his started to be recognized by the master artworks that he created for worldwide fashion houses Chanel and Fendi, as well as his eponymous fashion label. People will always remember him not only for his aspirational, relevant and cutting-edge attitude but also for his enigmatic persona and innovative perspective on fashion.

The fashion icon was the art director for fashion designer Jean Patou, as well as one of the first freelancer designers in contemporary fashion, having worked between France, Italy, England, and Germany. He was also the first fashion designer to introduce a perfume, ‘CHLOE’ during his time working for the French house from 1964 to 1975.

In 2017, Lagerfeld with the help of the Swarovski brand created his own luxurious jewelry line. This incredible luxury project included three different sub-lines – Ikonic, Klassic Karl and Essentials – which together were the perfect representation of the brand’s core identity.

More than just a simple fashion designer he became the full artistic persona with the creation of his first sculptural works at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris. Presented in 2018, this incredible exhibit included marble designs called ‘Architectures’ which were developed in collaboration with architect Aline Asmar d’Amman.
Lagerfeld used to say that for him designing was like breathing… After a seven-decade career filled with several iconic moments, including his 36 years at Chanel, he will be always remembered as a unique timeless design inspiration.
