Today I was inspired by an Architectural Digest article that talked about the challenge that designer India Mahdavi had to face when she received a call from long time clients telling they had just purchased a house on 150 acres in Litchfield County, Connecticut.
Based in London, a family with two kids decided to permanently move in to Connecticut, “I wanted to hear the sound of running water and feel the earth beneath my feet,” says the husband.
The clients, serious art collectors wanted Mahdavi to bring the comfort needed for their children but not setting apart from the couple´s urban taste. The designer explains “They wanted to keep the level of sophistication you find in the city but bring it to the country. I had never faced that challenge before.”
When the designer saw the 16,000-square-foot, six-bedroom dwelling comprises an old barn and several additions her first impression was that it wasn´t a place that felt like a family home, her wish was to create a real environment transforming this giant place in to a one comfortable house.
Immediately she altered rooflines, aligned doorways and windows, and linked two separate second-story wings with a new hallway. Rustic timber beams were whitewashed, while bare walls and ceilings were given depth with wood paneling.
Mahdavi took the essence of each room and gave the entire sophistication that the clients wanted. On the Kitchen you can find graphic lacquer cabinets 1960´s inspired, next to that the designer own creation a yellow table and above it a suspension light. This place is one of the favorite’s spots for the family.
The main goal of this top designer is to bring a combination of her own designs with modern pieces selecting bright colors that connect with the country side.
