Gesa Hansen is inspired by the heritage of her family, her Scandinavian background and the strong contrast between the two countries that taught her how to be a designer: France and Japan. Every space by Gensa Hansen, whether residential or commercial, feels pure and comfy, with superior levels of aesthetic beauty.
Gesa Hansen graduated from the Bauhaus University and NZU Nagoya University of Arts in Japan and made her first work experiences at Jean Nouvel and H5 in Paris. After two years of working in Japan and learning about the Japanese art of craftsmanship, Gesa Hansen returned to Paris and transformed her personal legacy into the design label The Hansen Family, an Editor of handmade furniture.
The Hansen Family is a label with a strong handcrafted character, founded by a designer who grew up in a Scandinavian family of carpenters, designers and architects. “Homegrown” in the business comes from the natural resources of oaks that they harvest in local forests, in this way allowing each piece to be handcrafted and unique. The first collection won two times the international Red Dot award and the International Good Design Award of the Chicago Athenaeum.
Gesa Hansen’s studio is now situated in the green lung of Paris, the forest of Fontainebleau. She advises renowned Furniture, Hospitality and Design Companies in matters of trend forecasting, material research, and form language. Among the designer’s successful collaborations were clients such as Villeroy & Boch, Bauwerk, Sid Lee, Klafs, Dom Perignon, Le Mont Saint Michel, and Armani, among others.
