Raised in the Greater Boston area, Jill Litner Kaplan has been involved in the world of design for the last 30 years. She has a natural passion for fashion, loves fine fabrics, and knows how to create an assortment that is visually stimulating and dynamic with no detail spared. According to Jill, the experience of collaborating and working with a team to do something that produces a tangible outcome is intensely rewarding: to start with an idea, develop a design concept, and then ultimately realize that creative vision is a joy.
“Being challenged to design something entirely new, fresh and intensely personal for each of our clients with whom we work is also very rewarding. Given the value I put on developing a robust collection of art, those clients who have entrusted us with not only with the interior design of their house and their home furnishings, but also building a collection of artwork is incredibly satisfying.” – Jill Litner Kaplan
Jill has been involved in the world of design for the last 30 years, but during 2009 and 2010 she faced the economic and stock market crisis, “managing my business at that time was a uniquely challenging and difficult time. I had to run a leaner operation requiring having to make painful decisions and pare my staff back in order to ride out this period, only to ultimately and successfully build it back up again.” she explained.
I feel extremely lucky to be able to wake up and go to work every day, having built a very robust and challenging business, having the stability of a wonderful, loving family and to be in good health. But have I achieved virtually everything I ever wanted? Definitely not! I still have so many dreams and ambitions of things I want to accomplish that propel me forward. – Jill Litner Kaplan
Having traveled extensively and lived in Paris, Jill carries her worldly sense of style and love of collecting art and objects throughout all of her projects. “My interior design work is inspired by my travels and there are parts of the world I dream of traveling to that I have not yet seen.”
Getting positive feedback from her clients as well as developing lasting and trusting relationships with all of her business partners is what makes Jill feels fulfilled professionally. “We love doing multiple projects for many of the same people over the years, which I believe is a strong testimonial to the level of trust they put in us to continue to design projects that are unique to them, and the positive experience they have while doing it”, she said.
We are currently working with existing clients on our 3rd project together: a period 5 story townhouse in historic Beacon Hill Boston. This property is uniquely different from their former home in the suburbs and requires excellent editorial skills as the rooms are generally smaller, and each piece we suggest must be carefully selected for both look and feel and how it will be used. The layout of the rooms, high ceilings, layered moldings, and period architecture suggests modern, relaxed glamour. Our inspiration for this home represents an evolution of personal style and sense of comfort. – Jill Litner Kaplan
When asked about the trend at the moment in the design world, Jill mentioned the use of color in unique and spirited ways. “Our firm has designed several rooms where everything from wall color to trim to cabinetry is a single bold color. We have done rooms in a shade of peacock green, cobalt blue, charcoal grey, and muddy taupe, and the effect of the high gloss paint coupled with the strong color choice is absolutely brilliant”, she pointed.
Her experienced team has collaborated on countless projects with some of New England’s best architects, builders, and contractors. Jill Litner Kaplan Interiors has done projects in Florida, Vermont, Maine, Cape Cod, Nantucket, and all over the Boston area.
Jill has developed an outstanding dedicated team that provides comprehensive design services to her clients, is very resourceful, highly organized, and committed to providing hands-on management to each of her projects. “Our clients value our creative and management skills and appreciate that what we can do for them will significantly enhance their lifestyle. They appreciate having us as partners in design to beautifully execute the needs of their project”, Jill explained.
For the last 10 years, Jill Litner Kaplan has been working with NIBA Designs to fabricate unique, high-quality custom rugs. “We believe that NIBA Designs is a clear industry leader”. Jill explained that they consistently introduce the new beautifully designed products, from rugs to bedding, which keeps things fresh, and they offer countless ways to customize each of their products, making it all the more interesting to work with. Hellman Chang and Bright Chair Company are two other companies with whom they work that take great pride in the quality of their design and craftsmanship and provide outstanding customer service and design direction.
The design world will need to be increasingly nimble as time goes on, as a souvenir of the pandemic will be enduring: a clear focus on home, on design and how people live. The need to design and manufacture goods faster, and the ability to customize at every price point will be a future focus of the design world. – Jill Litner Kaplan
