FOR FLORAL ARTIST DANIEL OST, ORCHIDS ARE LIVING SCULPTURES
by Jane Garmey

The Belgian designer has brought his unconventional vision to the New York Botanical Garden’s annual orchid show.

For its 16th Orchid Show, the New York Botanical Garden’s annual March bedazzler, the beloved Bronx institution has taken a new direction. LONDON-BASED SUZY HOODLESS PACKS HER SPACES WITH WHIMSY
by Ian Phillips

The former magazine editor is known for her dramatic designs and impressive organization.

Interior designer Suzy Hoodless has an archive of some 40,000 images on her computer. They are photos she has taken and kept as potential inspiration for her projects. “I have this weird memory where I can easily recall them,” she says, sitting at a long table on the first floor of her Notting Hill showroom. “I’ll think, ‘I need to find that photo I took at MoMA in New York. It must have been twelve years ago.’ ”

by Hilarie M. Sheets

This is evident in a photocollage of Lower Manhattan with cloaked silhouettes of 2 Broadway and 20 Exchange Place, made during the artists’ initial stay at the Hotel Chelsea and reproduced in the new monograph Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Urban Projects. “I have a real need to appropriate reality,” Christo is quoted as saying in 1968. “By wrapping, I directly appropriate certain elements of reality.”
